Sarracenia minor - Hooded Pitcher

Carnivorous Plants

Sarracenia minor

Hooded Pitcher

The Hooded Pitcher Plants range extends from deep southern Florida north and west to the panhandle and north to southern North Carolina. Most notably the 8-16” pitchers of S. minor have pronounced translucent windows on the back of the tube that lets light into the completely over hung mouth. The light let in is particularly attractive to the insects that climb up the tube following the many nectar glands to the top, once at the top they look to the light as en exit and fall in to there ultimate demise! S. minor flowers after the emergence of pitchers with chartreuse dainty flowers. The Hooded Pitcher Plant is an attractive plant and is hardy for us in Pennsylvania zone 6.
