Nymphaea sp. 'Chromatella'

Chromatella

Nymphaea  x marliacea,  'Chromatella'   For beauty and performance 'Chromatella' is an excellent hardy water lily.   Bred by the famous French waterlily hybridizer,  Joseph Bory Latour-Marliac, in the later 19thC - these lilies inspired Monet!  Large cup shaped semi-double 7" flowers last up to 5 days  from May to frost.  Soft canary yellow petals surround a deep golden stamen.  Lightly fragrant.   Shiny green leaves up to 9" are mottled with copper color.   The rhizome of the mature plant resembles a pineapple! A slow spreader in an earth bottom pool.
