Sarracenia x excellens

Sarracenia leucophylla x minor

S. x excellens is a  naturally occurring hybrid.  Parentage  (S. leucophylla x minor).   A beautifully rounded monk like hood with ruffle.  Green pitchers with red venation over white windows deepen in color rising up to the throat of the pitcher 2'.  S. excellens retains the v- shaped ala (wing shape) at the front opening of the pitcher from S. minor.  Late spring brings lovely pink-red flowers that are nodding and umbrella like.  Flowers stand above the pitchers.  Sweet nectar attracts insects who fall into the pitcher, a modified leaf, and provide nutrients that are unavailable to the pitcher in it's native bog soil.  Zone 5 - 9.
